An example of an Enterprise Architect’s approach to an enterprise’s data architecture is shown below. The EA analyzes and models the information needed and used in business processes and the operational units that perform them; the logical systems (system functions) and systems the need and produce them; the locations where they are needed and produced. Associated Standards and Performance attributes are also modeled. One result is an Information taxonomy for the enterprise. This is related to the data assets to plan future data architectures that are relatable to the enterprise’s needs and to devise the migration plan from current data assets to the planned ones.
